Current Chapter Activities
This has been a very active year for the theta lambda chapter.
NAMI and Student Nurse Leadership Project: Since Summer we have been working on a joint project with all of the area Student Nurse organizations and the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill (NAMI) Southwest Missouri office. The student nurse leaders have coordinated a work day, supply drive, and even have done fundraising to donate to the non-profit. Their gifts and time have allowed the local office to better meet the needs of their clients. The nurses are also honing their technical and organizational skills by working on public service announcements for the organization and will be helping with the May 1st NAMI walk, which is the largest yearly fundraiser for the organization. The process has been one of growth and learning about the needs of the mentally ill in our community for all involved. A special thanks to the student nurses of Cox College, Missouri State University, and Southwest Baptist University for the use of their leadership and nursing expertise in this all important project.
If you would like to learn more about NAMI you can visit their website at: http://www.nami.org/MSTemplate.cfm?MicrositeID=200
STTI Convention: The biannual convention of Sigma Theta Tau International was this past October in Indianapolis. Your chapter sent a delegate to be your voice and to vote on national leaders and changes to organizational by-laws. The 4 day event was full of impressive nurse leaders, education, and networking. To learn more about what is going on with the international organization, you can view the powerpoint developed by attendee Terri Schmitt at the chapter website – http://www.sigmathetatautl.wordpress.com/
2010 is the International Year of the Nurse: The chapter would like to have an event with possibly education and some recognition during the 2010 year for this important event. Your ideas, volunteer abilities, and leadership would be appreciated to help us create something special for nurses in Southwest Missouri. Please e-mail us at STTIthetalmabda@gmail.com. For more on this millennium event visit – http://www.2010iyn.net/.
Online Voting for Chapter Officers: To keep up with the best ways to communicate with members, the chapter board has voted in favor of exploring the ability to vote on chapter changes and chapter offices through an online venue. We will pilot this decision with our spring elections this year. We look forward to being able to hear from all of our active members on issues concerning the chapter.
Movers and Shakers: Several chapter members have been active in other areas of health and nursing. Member Dana Hunt has been voted president of the Missouri Nurses for Public Health. We are sure she will continue the legacy of excellent leadership in that nursing organization. Member Susan Berg, faculty at Missouri State University, has graduated with her DNP degree from the University of Iowa. Congratulations Susan! Member Amy Jones finished up her Masters of Science in Nursing Education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City this past December. Congratulations Amy! Member Terri Schmitt was asked to guest blog for the nursing organization INQRI in a celebration of changes in healthcare since the original Too Err is Human publication. You can read her post at http://inqri.blogspot.com/2009/12/nurses-crucial-link-for-patient-safety.html. Congratulations to all of our wonderful members on their hard work and dedication to nursing!
If you are doing great things or know other members who are, drop us a line, we would love to send them a kudos STTIthetalambda@gmail.com.
New Chapter Website and E-mail: The website has moved to http://www.sigmathetatautl.wordpress.com and our new e-mail is STTIthetalambda@gmail.com. You can contact us through either venue.
